  2. everyone went to work butt naked. It also helped boost the population after the losses incurred after WW2.

  3. Evaporation, shade, big hats and loose clothing.

    They also, from about 1700, built icehouses and filled them up during the winter so they could have ice in the summer.

    Ice was still being cut and harvested as late as 1950.

    About evaporation, it is still used for cooling in some buildings.

  4. They didn`t wear any underwear.  That practice is still adhered to by some office people even today.

  5. Electric fans, most likely. Before electric fans were invented, they probably didn't stay cool and just suffered through the heat. Aren't you glad we live in the 21st century?
