  1. From the New World Encyclopedia:

Birth of the idea of Olympics

"Coubertin envisioned an international competition to promote athletics. A growing interest in the ancient Olympic Games, fed by the archaeological finds at Olympia, gave birth to a plan to revive the ancient games. "

From the Olympia Greece online city guide:

"The first major excavation of Olympia began in 1875.."

Coubertin announced his plan to stage a modern Olympics in Paris in 1892.

Good luck with your paper!  The New World Encyclopedia was fairly easy to read.
