  1. Watch Pritviraj Chouhan on Star Plus from 9 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. every Friday to Sunday.

  2. Prithvi Raj Chauhan (1168-1192 CE) Prithvi Raj Chauhan was a king of the Hindu Rajput Chauhan (Chauhamana) dynasty, who ruled a kingdom in northern India during the latter half of the 12th century.

Prithvi Raj Chauhan was the second last Hindu king to sit upon the throne of Delhi (the last Hindu king being Hemu). He succeeded to the throne in 1179 CE at the age of 11, and ruled from the twin capitals of Ajmer and Delhi. He controlled much of Rajasthan and Haryana, and unified the Rajputs against Muslim invasions. His elopement with Samyukta (Sanyogita), the daughter of Jai Chandra, the Gahadvala king of Kannauj, is a popular romantic tale in India, and is one of the subjects of the Prithviraj Raso, an epic poem composed by Prithviraj's court poet and friend, Chand Bardai.

Prithvi Raj fought and defeated the Afghan ruler Muhammad Ghori in the First Battle of Tarain in 1191 CE but was then immediately defeated at the Second Battle of Tarain in 1192 CE. After his defeat, India was open to invasion by the Mahmud Ghori, and Delhi came under the control of him. Qila Rai Pithora in Delhi, also known as Pithoragarh, is named after him.

  3. After his army defeated Ghori's, the Afghan invader Mohammad Ghori towards the end of the twelfth century Prithviraj let the Afghan go despite being warned not to.

Ghori returned a year later. Prithviraj sent him a letter reminding him of how he had spared his life, and asked him to leave. Ghori said he was waiting for his brother's orders to do so, and moved his camp back a few kilometres. Knowing that Rajputs didn't fight by night, he suddenly attacked in the early hours, taking Prithviraj's army by surprise. Prithviraj was defeated in what is known as the Second Battle of Tarain, and died a heroic death.

  4. 1st answer

Muhammad ghori could never kill "the great Prithviraj".Prithviraj defeated him several times. At the battle of Tarain in 1191 he defeated and captured ghori. Ghori was shown mercy by Prithviraj as he begged for it and promised to leave his evil ways. Next year he again attacked prithvi "cowardly" during night and hence rajputs were defeated and prithvi was captured and taken to Afghanistan. Prithvi was tortured and red hot iron rods were inserted in his eyes at the orders of ghori. To this he and his friend chand bardai planned to take revenge at an archery tournament where to ghori's surprize a blind prithvi was hitting the target, to this he said "shabash" and prithvi shot him dead. In order to avoid further humiliation at the hands of afghans prithvi and chand stabbed each other. Hence Indian history lost a great warrior at just an age of 27

    2nd Answer

    Muhammed of Gaur

Muhammad Gaur's invasion of India followed that of Muhammad of Ghazni, another Central Asian king who invaded India first in 1000 AD. The Gaurs, having overthrown the Ghaznavids, established their own kingdom in Central Asia and Muhammad of Gaur was determined to extend his rule over India.

Muhammad of Gaur began his Indian campaigns. He captured the strong fortress of Uch. However his invasion of Gujarat proved to be a failure. During his conquest of India, Muhammad of Gaur had conflicts with the Rajputs, especially with Prithviraj Chauhan, king of Ajmer and Delhi. In 1190-91, Muhammad of Gaur marched beyond Punjab but Prithviraj and his troops harassed the Muslim troops, and soon defeated them. Muhammad was severally wounded and so went back to Ghazni.

    Second battle of Tarain

Muhammad did not become disheartened. He soon raised a very strong army to avenge his defeat. He invaded India in 1192 with adequate preparations. The battle was on the same field (Tarain near Thanesar) where he had his previous defeat. Muhammad of Gaur has now comprehensively routed th Rajputs in the Second Battle of Tarain. Prithviraj Chauhan was captured and put to death.

Muhammad of Gaur establishes kingdom in India

After defeating Prithviraj Chauhan, Muhammad of Gaur established an empire, with its capital at Delhi. He controlled much of Northern and central India. Muhammad further expressed his intentions of promoting Islam to convert "the land of the idols". His former slave, Qutb-ud-din Aibac, was to be in command.

    3rd answer

After the 2nd battle of Tarain, Prithviraj Chauhan was blinded by Ghori. The rajput king's court-poet and childhood friend Chand Bardai followed Ghori in disguise, came to his camp and gained his trust. He then met Prithvi and they made a plan. Chand Bardai told Ghori that PRC knew Shavbvedi, i.e he could hit a target with his arrow on hearing a sound, but since he was a king, he would do so only on the orders of another king- i.e Ghori. Ghori called Prithvi and asked him to aim at a ringing bell. But instead of the bell, Prithviraj aimed for the sound of Ghori's voice. According to some legends, Chand composed a poem to help Prithvi understand the exact location of Ghori. Anyway, Ghori was killed, and to avoid being humiliated by Ghori's soldiers, Chand and Prithvi stabbed each other. Prithviraj Chauhan's grave is in Afganisthan and one needs to trod on that grave to visit Ghori's grave
