  2. It seems like a funny question. Queen Victoria doted on her husband and deferred to him as his wife, but she ruled for a long time after his death.

    I've alway thought that Queen Victoria wielded a lot of influence and power.

Queen Victoria expressed herself very strongly and very frequently to her ministers.  She did not have much actual power, but that did not stop her expressing herself pretty freely.  I imagine that it probably annoyed her that she had no power to actually make political decisions.  She would probably have liked to be able to overrule her ministers when they annoyed her.  Especially Gladstone, whom she refered to as "the abominable old G man".
