Question:

How did sea anemones get in my tank?

I have had my marine tank for about 18mths now and about a year ago I brought 2 anemones. They lasted about 6 months and then died but it appears now that I have these little purple anemones on some of my rocks which weren't live rocks but actually dried coral. Any idea as to how this happened and what should I do about them?

  1. sounds like rock anemones, (they live in the live rock) which are actually a weed, they are pretty but can over take your tank, leave them be, but if they start to spread like wildfire you will have to take action.

  2. Hi There! Sometimes before anenomies die they let off pores which cling to anything they can cling on to. And from there they will mature and grow! Good Luck -Lily Allen♥☻☺

  3. They probably did come in from the live rock. They might sting your corals and fish if they come into contact. Usuaully, you can get a needle from a dollar store or what not and inject boiling water or concentrated lemon juice into it. Then i'tll just shrivel up and die. Don't pull them out of they'll reproduce through fragmentation
