How did social activists (M.L.K Jr, Ghandi etc) first get their voice heard?

  1. MLK was a Baptist minister, and known as an excellent orator.  Gandhi was a lawyer in South Africa and saw many injustices caused by the British, and wanted to return to his homeland and work for independence.  So he, too, had good oratory skills.
