  1. very lucky coz most of the indians were bad bowlers then

  2. they played well on deadly dead wicket... they also have the record of highest run in an inning of ODI

  3. sri lanka had scored because they had good batsman at that time and now also.

    and india had poor bowler

  4. they played well n the indian bowlers crapped.......

  5. They got a word record score by talking quickly.

  6. its not luck its talent

  7. Sri Lanka was good man, don't be jealous.

  8. I don't believe they had the word record. They were pretty lousy speakers of english, they're a lot better now.

That was a good record, i wish i was in love with cricket during the 1996 era. That was Sri Lankan batsmen at there best.

Look how far India have come now. That type of score will never happen again against a team like India nowadays.

  9. they have the highest odi score of 444 too and hiest 20twenty score also made by non other than sri lankans~

  10. It was just the pitch: flat as a pancake.

Remember, India scored 537/8 declared after 5 sessions when the Sri Lankan bowlers weren't exactly succeeding either. Centuries were scored by Navjot Singh Sidhu (111), Sachin Tendulkar (143) and Mohammad Azharuddin (126).

It does take more than just a good batting track to score 952 runs in an innings. The Indian bowling attack was hampered by injury to Javagal Srinath, but it is unlikely he would have made a huge difference. However, the inexperience of Abey Kuruvilla, Nilesh Kulkarni and the general ineffectiveness of Rajesh Chauhan, along with the form Sanath Jayasuriya was in, and Roshan Mahanama found himself while at the crease, combined to make it the biggest run-fest in Test history.

  11. bro it wasnt luck its just indias bowling was c**p and sanath jayasuriya wanted to show his real batting potential.....sri lanka had good batsmen those days...

  12. That was a stupendous performance on a flat batting track.

In that test match - 1439 runs were scored for just the loss of 14 wickets. Runs per wicket - 102.78.

And that was the debut test match for Mahela Jayawardena

  13. India went to SRL without much preparation in this 1997-98 SRL v IND series. The bowlers bowled very ordinarily in a series wherein Muralitharan bowled 888 balls, conceded 369 runs to take 9 wickets. Who bowled in that series ?

    1) Tendulkar: A part-time bowler. 12 balls. 2 runs conceded. 0 wickets.

    2) BK Venkatesh Prasad: 2 wickets for 264 runs in 396 balls of 2 test matches.

    3) Rajesh Chauhan: 1 wicket for 276 runs in 468 balls of 1 test match.

    4) Nilesh Kulkarni: A new bowler. 1 wicket for 195 runs in 420 balls of 1 test match.

    5) Sourav Ganguly: A part-time bowler. 3 wickets for 94 runs in 96

    balls of 2 test matches.

    6) Abey Kuruvilla: 4 wickets for 232 runs in 348 balls of 2 test matches.

    5) Anil Kumble: 5 wickets for 430 runs in 814 balls of 2 test matches.

    and the best was:

Debashish Mohanty: 4 wickets for 150 runs in 220 balls of 1 test

    match.

Mohanty was later removed from the team promptly after getting just one more chance.
