How did sushi get its name?

Question

Someone told me that sushi means "celebration of rice" but i have not been able to verify this. all that I have been able to find is that sushi literally means "its sour." any insight would be greatly appreciated...

sushi means sour.

because we add vinegar and some seasonings to sushi rice.

we dont use character for 'vinegar' to write sushi now. just phonetic equivalent.

does not mean celebration of rice or something.
