How did susie die in the lovely bones?

ok this is weird but i want to know.

did he like chop her up while she was alive or slit her throat etc.

He strangled her as far as I remember.

I'm guessing, as the book does not go into detail about how he killed her, but as it says 'he brought back a knife' I imagine after he raped her, he slit her throat, and then cut her into pieces, as an elbow is found etc. So sick but such an amazing book! Some people say its over rated or disapointed by the ending but I thought it all fitted perfectly.
