  1. Not very much.  Tanks were introduced late in the War and were used sporadically.  The did prove their worth though and several tank commanders (Patton, Rommel, Guderian, etc.) from WW1 became famous for their tank expertise in WW2.

  2. because it was such a new thing, when the british unveiled it the enemy soldiers were terrified of what it could do, and literally ran from it.

there is a case of when a division of 500 german soldiers had taken a british post with 25 soldiers, three british tanks arrived, and all the germans surrendered.

it also was used in the trech warfare to tear up the barbed wire and the other barricades so the soldiers could get to the enemy trenches

  3. they scared the bajeebeez out of the Germans, who were the first to face the monstrocities....so much so, that the likes of Guderian made it a priority to develop them for the next war.

But like the posters stated above, they did little to influence ww1.

  4. because it was a form of militarism.. thinking that there tanks are better then the other countries.. which led to competition between Germany and Austria (if i believe, im not too sure about that one.. its one of the opposite allie apponents from Germany)..

    hope i helped ^_^

  5. Tanks were first used in combat during the Battle of the Somme in 1916. Their impact on tactics and strategy was limited during the war due to the relative fragility (In terms of mechanical failure), their slow speed, vulnerability to artillery and mortar hits and poor design with regards to crew comfort and safety. Not able to distinguish themselves under any and all circumstances due to technical limitations tactics weren't adapted to suit mechanized warfare and what few gains tanks made were not properly exploited. In the end World War One was the death rattle of 19th century strategy and the 19th century soldier. It was only during the inter-war years that the tank became a true force to be reckoned with and this came with a trend for increased specialization and professionalism within the armed forces of the world.
