  1. Do you mean other than the steam paddle

    boats, the abolition of slavery, the transcontinental railroad, the killing of Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War?  Other than those it was pretty quiet.

  3. During this time the tensions between the north and south were tightening and the country was divided over the issue of slavery. The book "Uncle Tom's Cabin", by Harriet Beecher Stowe told the horrors of slavery to the north and south. The North was shocked, The South was angry. The annexation of California into the union  was also taking place in this time period, as it would enter as a Free State. Later on the election of 1860 would be the last straw as Lincoln was elected even though he had not won ONE southern state. The south believed that they had no say in the gov. anymore and S.Carolina was the first state in the South to secede, or to leave the Union.Many other southern states joined and They started the civil war against America.

  4. It was a period of religious activity . The Mormons took member of all the churches and started a large church in Illinois. Abe Lincoln was elected and the slave business came to a head. Life was wild and very cruel.
