How did the British address the issue of lack of housing for Allied troops prior to the invasion of Normandy?

  1. If I'm not mistaken, many private homes were used to house Allied troops.


  2. They also made extensive use of a prefabricated steel building originally developed in the First World War, the famous 'Nissen Hut'.

  3. Many soldiers lived in houses with families. The towns were usually next or in the military base. Or american troops lived in old British barracks or barracks were built.

  4. Not sure but i would say either tents or hot bunking (two or 3 people on differnet watches useing the one bed)
