  1. Like dogs.  They took advantage of their kindness and took their land.  They shoved them off onto these tiny worthless reservations, separating them from their families and traditions and history.  They used their resources and deliberately tried to decimate the population by giving them blankets laced with small pox viruses.  They thought of them as uncivilized, savage, beasts and foisted their culture on them.  They tried converting them, but upon coming to the conclusion that they just couldn't be assimilated in the way that they wanted them to they proceeded to kill them off and torment them.  The English were horrible people.

  2. Same as they treated the natives in all their colonies - with contempt. They thought they were entitled to their Empire and its resources, the people there didn't matter.

  3. Clearly some of the responses are conditioned by one-sided histories, – blankets laced with diseases – germs were unknown, no-one knew or even conceived that disease could be passed that way, nor did they understand that an isolated people would have different immunities, the settlers were also dying of disease (possibly syphilis made the journey in the opposite direction). The ‘smallpox blankets’ were (allegedly the research is called into question) the gift of the US government to the Mandan in 1837. A knee-jerk (i.e. a conditioned response) is that the settlers were awful people who had no respect for their unprepared and unwilling hosts and set about subjugating them, converting them or killing them, while that did happen in some case it is not the truth in all or even in most cases. Contemporary and later accounts show the settlers trying to assimilate and trade with their new neighbours – most of these people had been persecuted themselves, they knew what it was to live under pressure to change or suffer, it is inconceivable that all of them would have forgotten those conditions.

  4. divide and conquer buy the services of a rival tribe to kill another and then double cross them same as in Asia and Africa
