  1. 14 th Amendment contains the Due Process and Equal Protection Under the Law clauses.

The equal protection clause says everyone must be treated the same. So former slaves and other peoples born in the US had to be given citizenship.

Today, because of the 14 th. Amendment, anyone born inside the US is automatically a citizen, even the children of tourist, or the children of illegal immigrants.
