How did the French and Indian War alter the ideological relations between Britain and the American colonies?

  1. First, it removed the great and ever-present threat of French invasion from Canada.  With that threat gone, the Colonists generally felt less need for the British.

    Secondly, the end of the war, with the restrictions on American expansion into the Ohio Valley and the laws passed allowing the Canadians to continue to practice their Catholic faith and to maintain their own ways of doing things, coupled finally with taxes levied against the Americans to pay for a war in which the Americans had fought, all brought on dissatisfaction and resentment on the part of the Colonists.  Suspicion of British motives grew, as well.
