The head of one of the biggest police forces in Britain has been found dead.

Michael Todd, the Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police, disappeared while out walking on Snowdon, north Wales, on Monday night.

Rescue teams found the 50-year-old's body on part of the mountain called Bwlch Glas on Tuesday afternoon.

The cause of his death is not yet known but suicide is understood to be one line of inquiry. Letters addressed to his family were also found.

The available evidence would point to a suicide, but as yet nothing has been confirmed. What a tragedy for his family, it appears there was no indication of his intent so it must have been a great shock to them. His deputy was genuinely distressed when making a statement to the press and said he was very highly regarded within the force. We should not make judgements as to the whys and wherefors, that the poor man was distressed enough to take his own life warrants sympathy for both him and his family. My thoughts are for them.

Just Dr. Kelly,Robin Cook and now  Michael Todd have found that the countryside is a very dangerous place to be. Now whether it was suicide is another matter but we will have to wait for the toxicology tests, to rule out drugs and drink. But also we have to wonder about the text messages, they can be faked, after all he was working on a case which involved the CIA.

I am always sad when I hear someone anyone has taken their own life ,the news today of the death of the CC of GMP Michael Todd was very sad news.

I am just Jo Public but I feel sorry for him, he must have been in distress to have done something so final,he leaves a wife and young children they will be bereft, it amazes me that some morons have made derogatory comments about his death, all life is sacred, to those who have posted nasty remarks look inside yourself what sort of human being are you,whatever/ why ever he did thiswill probably be revealed by the media in the coming days. I will pray for him and his family and colleagues.surely that is the least we can do?

i dont think anyone knows the reason yet...his body cant be recovered because of the bad weather...obviously he has something to hide...or a dark side!!
