  1. The Lochness Monster story begin in the Old Testament. Prophet Job seen the Lochness Monster in Chapter 40.

  2. Um, oookay.  The story isn't a biblical one to the silly goose who wrote before me.

The first reported sighting is found in Adamnan's Life of St. Columba, written sometime in the mid to late 7th century.  The incident reportedly occurred in 565 when the saint saved a Pict from a terrible monster in the vicinity of the loch.  However, many argue that the event could have taken place on the River Ness, as the loch wasn't specified, and the reliability of this hagiographical text is slim to none, since the saint encounters other fake supernatural beings throughout.

The next recorded incident occurs in 1933, a far cry from the 565 one, despite allegations of an 1871 event (most likely fabricated to boost others' evidences), in which a couple saw a huge animal in front of their car with a long, narrow neck.  In my opinion, this alleged sighting started a snowball effect of silly sightings culminating in the multi-million dollar industry today.  Wikipedia has a list of other sightings:
