  1. the louisiana purchase affected the us because it gave them more land without wars and made the country bigger.

    lewis and clark expedition had about 40 men.  occupied about half of the vast expanse streching 1700 miles from the mississippi to the pacific coast.

    but the historic moment confirmed the claim of the u.s to the whole oregon region. the claim had been based on teh discovery of the mouth of the columbia river in 1792 by robert gray, captain of a fur-trading ship out of boston. but the lewis and clark expedition did even more. it began to sketch in details of the vast heartland that the nation had purchased. the sample of rocks and plants and animals that explorers brought revealed unusualpected natural treasures.
