How did the MADE Men find out who killed Batts of the movie Goodfellas?

and why did they let Henry and DeNiro live?

Was it because Tommy was totally of their race and thus subject to their rules?

Henry and Jimmy didn't actually kill Batts in Goodfellas, Tommy did. Batts was a made guy, and Tommy wasn't... and the movie doesn't really explain how they knew. Henry does say, "it was about Billy Batts and other things...."

My husband says the book goes more into detail, but I haven't read it.

One of the best movies of all time tho!
