  1. It's assumed that the Druids built it as a religious structure.  But we aren't sure (as the previous reply stated).

  2. it was built, not developed; but nobody really knows who built it

  3. The area of Stonehenge was inhabited since the Upper Palaeolithic (Ice Age) and by the Mesolithic (Middle Stone Age) British hunter-gathering peoples erected several tall wooden 'totem poles' in a forest clearing. This was in about 8000BC. The region of Stonehenge was already becoming a sacred place...

By the Neolithic (New Stone Age) a 'henge' ditch and bank (circular shape) had been dug (2950BC), and eventually a round wooden mortuary house was constructed inside the circle. This house was either torn down or fell into ruin and the first stones were brought to the site in about 2550BC.

The 'Blue Stones' were the first stones erected at Stonehenge, though their original arrangement was soon re-ordered and large sarsen  stones were put up. The Blue Stones were later returned to the site and even more alterations and changes were carried out.

Stonehenge took on its final form in about 1900BC. By 1600BC however it seems to have lost its importance and it gradually fell into decay.

Druids did not build Stonehenge. Druids are part of Celtic society which didn't appear in the British Isles until about 700BC, long after Stonehenge had become abandoned. It was indigenous British farming communities that built Stonehenge over many centuries.
