  3. The US government realised it had to take an active role in preventing things like the Great Depression - which came as a result of unregulated banking and corporate abuse of the population.

    The economy was doing great until Reagan took over, removed all the regulations and we had the recession of the 80's, and the recession going on now courtesy of Bush doing the same garbage.
