  1. The US Government raised money by selling War Bonds - This is basically the US citizens LOANING the government money... at times during the war, the Government was BROKE.

We also made some money through Lend-Lease with Great Britain and Russia... though this was mostly a LOSS because the terms of the loans didn't keep up with inflation, AND the Soviets never repaid the loans.  We DID GIVE the Brits a great deal of material in exchange for LONG leases on certain military bases - Diego Garcia, England, Azores, etc.

The TRUE gain was after the war... as others stated, we hadn't suffered any major infrastructure damage during the war, and our industries switched RIGHT over to producing post-war goods for sale around the world.

  2. The real gain for the US was inadvertent.  In the aftermath of WWII the US was the only industrialized nation that wasn't more or less in ruins or broke.  The post war boom was due to the fact that the US was pretty much the only country capable of manufacturing anything on a large scale.

  3. We didn't.  We lost a lot of money even from before the war.  We supplied allied nations since the beginning.  Those countries also owed us a lot of money(FRANCE) but, we forgave the debt for some reason.  So yeah, we came out of that war well because it brought us out of the depression but, we were in the red..

  4. Yeh, the US out swindled Winston Churchill and was very wary of the Russians, they were largely profitering, long before they entered the War.

  5. It is called war profits.  Most of the boom was in making planes, tanks, jeeps and ammunition.  Arms were then and are now, the USA's most profitable industry

  6. The U.S. suffered no attack and no infrastructure damage during WWII. Europe and Japan however were destroyed. The U.S. subsequently loaned Europe and Japan the money to rebuild and then sold them the goods to do the job. It's kind of like the way new car dealers get rich when you borrow money from the dealer to buy a car.

  7. By selling oil to Britain AND Germany. Not many people know that. Oh, and they provided weapons to the British.

  8. Gain money?  The U.S. SPENT billions of dollars fighting Japan and Germany but all of Europe is not speaking German are they?

  9.   i dont think the us actually made money on the war but it did stimulate the economy because we needed tanks, jeeps, guns, planes, battleships, etc. That put long unemployed people to work and ended the great depression

  10. sold weapons and fuel to hitler and the english.
