How or what did their father do to get them so involved in tennis? What classes? Camps? I would like my daughter to get involved in tennis. She is 2 years old so I need to start thinking now on how to get her into tennis?

  1. Propagating your retirement plan are you? Haha.

The best thing you can do for your 2 year old is get her a starter racquet and enroll her in some youth tennis camps/clinics. If you go straight into private lessons it can be a bit much for a 2 year old's attention span unless they are extremely passionate about it. Being in a camp or clinic will let them play with other kids and get instruction at the same time.

If she enjoys tennis and really seems to take to it (remembering of course it should partly be her choice) enroll her in private lessons. Once she gets a year or two under her belt I would look into tennis camps and academies.

Most professionals begin early, take private lessons and attend well known tennis academies/schools. The Williams sisters were playing in tournaments ever since the age of 4!

I would also certainly join the USTA. There you can find great sources of information for youth camps, academies and more importantly age ranked tennis tournaments you can begin enrolling her in later on.

  2. Get her a racket and some balls....

  3. I heard that he bought a book about tennis and taught them himself.  I think eventually they had some guidance from other coaches in the form of camps etc, but Richard has been their only " coach "

  4. richard willams saw a women tennis player on tv get a cheque paid out to her at the french open and that was more money then he made for the entire year and thats how it all started
