How did the ancient Egyptians talk?

I mean like their language. For instance Elizabethean times spoke very 'flowery' and talked all about 'courty love'.

I think the Egyptian males spoke in very commanding tones? Not to sure.

I have to re-write a Romeo and Juliet scene into a different context (we chose Ancient egypt) and yeah I don't know how to say everything.

Thanks

  1. I'd stay formal for the noble characters and then be more casual for the lower class characters (such as Juliet's nurse).

Just throw a couple of Egyptian curses into the mix.  Set take you!, By the Beard of Ptah, By the Horns of Hathor, Isis protect us.  Also - you need to change the setting -- the famous balcony scene -- will you have the lovers meet under the shadow of the Pyramids?  Or the death scene with R & J -- in a tomb within the Valley of the Kings?   You can toss in a lot of references to Anubis.

Try doing a sentence or two at a time.  Romeo speaks to "dead" Juliet of his intention to spend eternity with her, describing himself as shaking “the yoke of inauspicious stars / From this world-wearied flesh”.  So how would you re-phrase that for an Egyptian Romeo??

Maybe "shedding the mantle of Nut (goddess of the night sky) from my world-wearied flesh"  You don't need to change every word,  Ask your teacher to clarify this point.

  2. they are arab they spoke arabic

  3. There Talking Egypt with notes

  4. It is a given that if they were of noble blood they would be commanding and even arrogant. The higher the caste (priest, noble, officer...) the more arrogant. Consider as well that the Egyptians of old considered themselves to be a superior race.

Courtly love is a medieval idea developed by Alienor of Aquitaine. If you look at the much older legend of Tristan and Ysolde their love is considered a kind of madness. As for Helen of Troy some of the stories say that she was abducted against her will... Talk about courtly love. Make it instead an attraction one cannot resist, a desire, or any other word describing you love someone without using the word.

Have a look at the architecture too. There won't be windows, glasses, or balconies. See how an Egyptian palace was built.

And by the way, they didn't ride horses, they only had chariots.

    Good luck

  5. I do not believe they were talking as said.

It is only the Bible showing them as arrogant and commanding.

They had their own music and celebrations. They did not know blood sacrifices like other civilizations.

They had their own love stories

They may have been brutal to invaders but they were as human as any nation was.
