  1. The Greek sculpture was discovered in the early 1800's after having been buried since ancient times. The arms have never been found, so it's not known what happened to them.


  2. It appears Venus de Milo is looking at her "golden apple" which she is holding on her left arm. Though it is not clear why and how her arms were cut, we can only live within the boundaries of theories. It is possible that Alexandros of Antioch (thought to be its sculptor) had a hard time perfecting Venus' arms, he might have experienced several tries before completing it. But there is but one flaw, due to these trial and errors, her left shoulder and right elbow weakened, thus makes it easier to break by applied force, or natural force.

    We can't expect to find the truth behind her arms in Yahoo Answers, if someone really found out the truth, he/she would rather contact BBC or CNN rather than post it here.
