And which hominids where the first to travel there? What period of time??

I know for Indonesia the land was connected and so the early Hominids were able to walk from Africa to Java but I heard that Australia was not apart of that connection? If so how did they find so many fossils there?!?!

  1. On Quantas.

    How else ?

  2. Once called Australoids, Africans migrated to Australia on foot, until during an Ice Age (between 50-60,000 years ago), when ocean levels were down appx.150m (450'), Australia was only 60 miles away, and it's presumed that islands were "hopped" by raft, until they eventually reached those continental shores!

  3. During the last ice age Asia and Australia were separated only 60 miles of water. Birds, clouds and smoke from forest files could all indicate that there was land over the horizon.

Primitive rafts and watercraft were known to have been used for fishing. As happens today storms could push watercraft out to sea. It's entirely possible this was how the first voyage to Australia occurred.

Most interesting about the human settlement of Australia was that it required ocean traveling capabilities.
