  1. It was covered by a sandstorm. They knew it the rough area it had had been discovered in, but not exactly where. It's not like they had GPS or instant communications back then and it wasn't exactly a high priority.


  2. It got buried and covered up with time.

    It isn't like it was built yesterday and lost today!

    Everything is buried and there are artifacts that are found constantly when they dig for projects etc.
