How did the game Marco Polo come about?

A group of people whom got together to have fun.Like hiding seek when you where a kid/ but grown up,s older kid,s play this game in a swimming pool.Marc Polo sometime even calling out your name so that you can not fine them.By the way your blind folded / if you catch some one you need to know who it is then it,s there turn to catch you fun.

I think people played Hide and Seek in a swimming pool and said Marco then the others said Polo. . .

I read on Wikipedia Marco Polo was a person who sailed a lot, so they probably named it after him?

This most popular of swimming games owes it's name to the Venetian explorer of the late 1200s and early 1300s whose travels to China, India and other parts of Asia helped to introduce the "mysterious Orient" to Western Europe.

Legend says that Marco Polo did not know where he was going when he first set out on his travels- hence the game's name.
