  1. evolution dumbass

  2. If you're asking for a biological answer, then we descended from an ape-like ancestor that lived between 5 and 7 million years ago.  The population of ape-like ancestors was divided, and part of the population descended through very gradual variation to produce modern chimpanzees and bonobos.  The other group descended, through increasingly "human" ancestors, to become us.

When discussing the evolutionary origin of the human species, it's tempting to see Homo sapiens as the end of the road, evolutionarily speaking, as if every species in our lineage was simply a stepping stone to us.  This is an understandable viewpoint, but not supported.  Instead, we are simply a marker on the videotape of primate evolution, and provided we don't blow ourselves up, something else may come after us.  Who knows, right?

I hope that helps.  Good luck.
