    i had never heard that one

    but probably from disgruntled RR workers

    "haywire" is an old farmer term for anythign broken down and fixed haphazardly on the spot instead of being properly repaired.

    Hay bales used to be tied together with steel wire, which was used to fix everything on a farm.


  2. i beleive that John Kenefick, (from the union pacific) nicknamed it "the haywire" , refering it as a railway that started nowhere and ended nowhere.ie,(haywire)
