First, kinda rude to have ruined it for folks...it's a fantastically beautiful movie and regardless...I recommend anyone seeing it.

Second: She CHOOSES to be with her son...ultimately choosing death. The orphans were always pulling her towards them..towards the afterlife. in the movie, the psychic told her that in order to "save" her son she would have to believe.

Once she saw her son dead...she believed that she was already dead as well and that she belonged with them...the children, and her beloved son.
