How did the saga of Dark Shadows start?

I heard it was on tv the other night & I missed it. Jonathan Prit(?) was the vampire & he was inlove with Daphne? That's what I can remember as a teenager. Anyone give me a bio of that story & how it came about please?

There was a sop opera in the late 1960s or early 70s, on at about 2 or 3:00 in the afternoon. It was called Dark Shadows. Barnabas Collins was the vampire. I don't know much about the details, because I had to keep my 4 year old son from trying to watch it. He loved it. Anyway, that's where it got started. As I recall, Barnabas was the one who made Angelique the vampire, so she could keep  her youth and beauty. She was in love with him.

yes you are right with that. Dark shadows was over the top gothic serial replete with a spooky mansion. just type dark shadows soaps and you can found everything about this
