  1. For the makeup of a personality, astrological signs are only part of the picture - there's also upbringing and genetics as well that are a major factor.

  2. no , for me it comes from experience only

  3. "Stereotyping" in astrology happens when people look to one placement (typically the sun sign) for all the answers without regard for the rest of the birth chart. There is truth in sun sign generalizations, but only as those traits relate to the rest of the chart. For example, a Leo sun with a Cancer rising is not likely to be quite as flashy as Leo sun with Sagittarius rising, are they? In fact, if that Leo sun has a lot of softer influences in their chart, you may not see the Leo flair for drama very much at all. Does that mean that all Leos are not dramatic and showy because one is less inclined to be? Of  course not, in fact the Leo sun in question likely still has dramatic tendencies, but expresses them in a more subtle way, or else wishes that they could be more outgoing and showy (which of course they can, it's in them if they've got Leo sun), but finds it difficult to express that part of themselves. Bottom line, you don't even begin to see the whole picture of astrology until you learn to read a natal chart and understand that the sun is not the end of the story. Most people either don't understand this, or don't care to understand this, and therefore the stereotypes of the sun sign personalities remain the most widely acknowledged and referenced aspect of astrology.

I think that's what you're asking about, anyhow....

  4. I would call them archetypes, not stereotypes...

They came from observation, and they came from nature... it is really a bit too much to type out, but here's an example or three...

Aries starts Spring, starts the cycle, and Aries is the sign of action. Aries in the energy of the first plants in Spring, pushing their way through the last snow cover to bloom and declare the season is changing.

Taurus is a fixed sign. Once you take action, then you sit and gather your possessions.

Next, now that you're settled in, you start thinking and talking and observing and along comes Gemini...

Next somes the babies, and it's time to set up a home. Cancer takes center stage...

    See what I am implying?

Libra starts the harvest season. Everyone has to communicate and pull together to harvest all the crops...

Capricorn, the sign of long term planning and control. starts the winter. Few would survive the weather and conditions of winter without planning ahead....

Astrology was initially discovered from observations about nature...

And the planets fit the signs they are associated with:

Mars the red planet, the god of war, connects with Aries

The Moon is very changeable and rules the night. Home is where you are safe at night. Cancer & the Moon understand each other.

Jupiter, the biggest planet, is about expanding and growth. And so Sagittarius, the sign of the archer shooting arrows far into the distance, connects with the idea of further, better, more.

Saturn is circled with rings, rings of restarint, and so it connects with Capricorn, the sign of control and focus...

Etc etc etc... see what I mean?

    ............

I know archetypes are not stereotypes... that's why I made the distinction. I was proceeding as if that was what Laro meant to say... discussing stereotypes seemed a little odd to me...

  5. Archetypes and stereotypes are NOT the same thing.

    Please don't confuse the kids.

Astrological stereotypes come from the same place all stereotypes come from.   People making broad assumptions based on relatively little information.

***exactly...  As valid as your answer is astrologically, it has nothing to do with stereotypes which he asked about.  I know what an archetype is and its connection to astrology.  I know you do too.  However, your answer confuses the issue.  Many here have not heard the word "archetype".  And the only Jung they know of is the Libra pretending to be a Virgo on this board.  Based on your post they might connect archetypes to stereotypes.  Sorry, but I couldn't let that happen.  :)
