  1. Perhaps because it is close to a scream of anguish. AHHHHH evolved into Ow! Just a theory.

  2. Because it not really a word it more of a grunt when we feel pain. And then over time when we were able to start writing they probably wrote out what it sounded like.

  3. i think its because when people get hurt they can't help but shout stuff. plus now its something lots of ppl use so thats most of it. kinda like when someone say yikes when they are scared

  4. Sometimes I say nothing at all... or... fuuuuuuucccccckkkk!

  5. Well, I don't think we would be saying "Yay!" if we were bleeding to death but that is a good question. I think it's just what comes out when we scream or yell when we get hurt. Like instead of saying "Ahhh!" it turned into "Ow!"

  6. Because "oh my stars, placing my hand on the stove-top has caused a sensation of stinging pain" takes too long to say.

btw, I use f*ck more than I use ow

  7. In ancient times the use of magic spells was more prevalent and accepted than it is now.  Back then everybody knew some minor spells to help out with everyday occurences.  "Ow" was the word of power for the spell that lessened immediate pain.
