  1. The Wright Brothers have changed the world by inventing a new means of transport.

  2. The Wright brothers neither "invented " powered flight, nor were they the first!

The first person to fly a powered, heavier than air vehicle (aeroplane) was Sir Hiram Stevens Maxim, (who is more famous for his machine gun). On Tuesday 31st July 1894 at Baldwyn's Park (formerly the site of a mental hospital, now a housing estate) in the London Borough of Bexley, his flyer was launched for the first time and successfully flew.

  3. The big change that made the Wright brothers aircraft different from all the others was...control.

They developed a method of warping the wings to bank the aircraft into turns. Most other designs of the time used a rudder to "skid" the turn.

Glenn Curtis, who was a competitor of the Wrights and belittled their craft, stated after watching the Wrights fly, "They have solved the problem, and beaten me."

Since then, just about every aircraft design has incorporated ailerons for banking, and ailerons are a direct descendant of wing warping.
