How did these fraudsters manage to hack into my Ebay account?

I have just spent the best part of the morning trying to sort out my Ebay account; Ebay notified me saying that a third party had used my account but they managed to track them down and have credited back all necessary fees etc, but I had to go through the whole process of redoing my account with a customer service person. Apparently the so called "individual" had used my account to put on their own sales of GHD hair straightening irons, which I otherwise would have been expected to pay for on my account! Can anyone tell me how this so called person got into my account (I am always careful with personal info), how fraudsters operate and how to watch out for them again? Thanks

Are you sure the customer service rep wasn't the scammer?

When you leave ebay and get onto another site, make sure to log out of your ebay account every time. Some websites can still view your previous page visited. So make sure you are always logging out and don't click, "keep me signed in for a day" on the ebay log in options page. That should help!
