  1. Snow was brought down from the mountains for this purpose, but it wasn't very effective.  Beer was drunk cool at best.

  2. frigid b*****s

  3. IDK...GOOD QUESTION

  4. Beer was rare in the old west. Most of the time it was whiskey, liquor, tequila, and maybe wine that was served. Most often it was served warm.

  5. Beer was rare in the old west, and cold beer even rarer. Thus you see a lot of whiskey and bourbon drinking in the Wild, Wild, Old  West.

    Good question.

  6. Kind of a trick question because beer used to be served warmer than it is now and they drank more whiskey than anything else.

They used to freeze and harvest ice all winter long and then store it in a special building in blocks with sawdust in-between the blocks. The building had thick walls to keep the ice from melting so they also used it as an impromptu jail.  This is where the term "spent a night in the cooler" came from.

I used to live near the Hudson river and saw a device they used to cut ice from the river every year.

  7. Most of the saloons had a celler under the bar and during the winter they would store ice packed with straw to keep the celler cool.  They never really had cold beer it was more cool and wet than anything.  The saloons in the desert areas served pretty much warm beer.

  8. For the most part, they didn't keep it cold. Cool yes, cold no. Root cellars are cool places to store alcohol in. Beer, wine and spirits fare better in cool conditions.
