  1. Try a history book on the subject.  The industrial revolution began in England in 1760; well before the 18th century.   "As a social category, the 'middling sort' always referred to a broad band of the population" - in short, a middle class existed well before the industrial revolution and the 18th century.

  2. John, go kill yourself.  I hope a shelf at Target falls over on you.

  3. Well, there wasn;t much of a woman's movement in 18th century england.  Mary Woollstoncroft's Vindication of the Rights of Women' was published at the end of the 18th century, but it didn't have a widespread impact.  It was the 19th century when women began to interest themselves in legal and political rights.

I think it developed as a result of some women becoming discontented with the restrictions on their lives, and their lack of rights to property, divorce etc.  Caroline Norton for instance campaigned to have the right to custody of her children after her husband divorced her, which led to the Infant custody Bill in 1839.

Because married women had no property rights at that time, Caroline norton's estranged husband was able to take all her earnings from her writings, which prompted her to write in favour of the Divorce Bill and the first Married Women's property Bill.   Married Women's property acts were passed in 1870 and 1882.

During the 19th century, the number of men able to vote increased gradually with the passing of various acts of parliament, which prompted a reaction amongst some women who felt that they should also be able to vote.  Mrs Pankhurst formed the WSPU (Women's Social and Political Union) in 1903.

  4. They're not all that bold.  I thinkit's just a response to changing economic structures..women are more independent than they used to be.  Also, women are often emotionally more mature than a lot of men and they are starting to ASSERT that more than they used to.  Not because women are superior, but societal conditioning of women to be child raisers I think..in any case they usually ARE much more mature.

  5. Women were tired of being treated as second class citizens. Not a mystery.

  6. It was a result of the industrial revolution. New inventions freed up hour's of the day and also the creation of a middle class.

Most of the first activists ironically hired lower class women to watch there kid's and for cleaning and stuff.

I don't agree with Emily but I do at the same time. Why the need to be derogatory to women? Granted society allows them to oppress us guy's but it isn't there fault per se.

Some women might be hateful misandric's but that doesn't justify demeaning all women. We are all humans after all, and each of us is capable of contributing greatly to our species.

Besides this is what feminist's want. To give in and demean and insult women only reinforces hatred.

(probably didn't come out the way I wanted to but I am growing tired of a few sexist jerks here. Dealing with man haters and then women haters who weaken equaltarian arguments because people try to say we are all like that is really starting to get on my nerves...)

Most of us or at least myself do not hate women, just the way society allows women to act and the unfair bias society has towards women.

But in all fairness John balances out California half the time though. But still no need for it.

  7. They wanted equality which is what today's Western men want.
