It's a little nasty. Guy breaks his leg trying a low kick. There's another video posted on youtube of something similar but I feel this shall suffice.

What did the guy do wrong, so that I make sure to avoid that mistake? Does this mean shin kicks are rather dangerous to perform compared to say.. heel kicks? I have never heard of anyone breaking their heel doing a thrust kick.

  1. He could have probably broken his leg from low bone density training on his shins and it looked like he aimed at the wrong spot in the video.

  2. WOW!!!   if you have any more sources please edit question with video links.  this is amazing.

    another here

  3. basically he threw a muay thai kick (shin kick) and the other guy blocked it, ive only seen it once so i dont think its a common occorence...rather amusing tho :P

i wouldnt say there dangerous and getting a muay thai kick to the leg feels like being hit with a baseball bat!

  4. They do hurt for that reason BUT....That doesn't happen that much !  The guy kicking just hit a REALLY hard spot with his soft spot of the leg.  This is VERY rare so I wouldn't worry too much...That is IF your legs are strong enough to go into a fight.  Maybe his Legs where just weak and didn't train Hard enough to get them conditioned for the fight.  So, you MUST make sure your Ready BODY and MIND !

  5. There are a number of reasons that he could have broken his leg -- previous injury, low bone density from poor diet, etc.

The low shin kick is dangerous. You're using the rotation of your body to generate force and delivering it at a point of impact of hard surface (your shin). When a foot is planted, the shin itself is a hard striking surface (albeit an often sensitive one, which is part of why traditional muay thai fighters conditioned against harder objects), with the added support of being grounded. Therefore, the striking shin is hitting a stationary object at high speed -- consider the effect of kicking a telephone pole in a similar manner. The impact is going to continue to disperse outward while the energy continues forward.

Thanks for the video. I was almost ready for lunch, but having the pleasure of re-consuming my breakfast fixed that right up ;)
