I'm doing a research project on Italy for school, and I need to know a few things about tiramisu:

1) why is tiramisu important in Italy's culture and how did it become important?

2) When is it eaten/served in Italy? Is it for special occassions, like celebrations and holidays?

  1. The tiramisu is famous in all over the world but it was created in Italy.

There are some history about the origins of the tiramisu because there is no documented mention of the dessert before 1983:

1.Some people say that it was created in the city of Siena in honour of Cosimo III 8 ( he was born in 1642)

    2. Others say that it was created in Northern Italy during the First World War. Womens made this dessert for their men because they had to fight and have to be strong.

3.The last story says that  the dessert was a way of salvaging old cake and coffee.

For Italians is important because they created it!!

This are the ingredients: eggs, Savoiardi biscuits, sugar, rum, coffee , cocoa and mascarpone.

It is eaten for some occasions : parties (not very important like Christmas), break, dessert after lunch (often sunday), when there are guests at home ( because it's a simple recipe).

It is never served for weddings party because in this occasions it is eaten a cake.

Sometimes in the cafes you can find the tiramisu for take-away

  2. i hate tiramisu..i'm italian so belive me! ciao

  3. Sorry to explode a myth about a dessert I like, but:

    1) tiramisu is very popular in all the world and it's without doubts the most popular Italian dessert, but it's not as important in Italy as it is abroad. Here in Italy, it's just one dessert among the others and doesn't enjoy of any particular high reputation.

    2) it's considered mostly a "fast food" dessert, because it's very simple to get ready. It's very common to have it after dinner in a restaurant or pizzeria, as it's cheap and you can be sure it's fresh food (it's very hard to preserve it one day for another)
