I think I just deleted my own answer.  Hey, it isn't just in Britain that people do that.  You should see the folks lined up at Starbucks here in the USA!  Lines are often long.  Besides their overpriced coffee, they also have the readily-available New York Times, the liberal "National News Rag of Choice".  You do know that Dunkin' Donuts and Cinnabon have good coffee also at half the cost?  Besides at those two places you can avoid the libs, yuppies with attitudes, and the ubiquitous "Laptop People".
