Question:

How did we come into existence: evolution vs. God?

I was raised Christian but now that I am older I am starting to feel like the Bible and the theory of God seems a little far fetched. I mean, it seems more logical to believe that life was created through the Big Bang theory and we evolved through millions and millions of years, rather than to think that someone made a man shaped out of dirt and breathed life into him. Also, whats the deal with dinosaurs? Did humans co-exist with dinosaurs if God really did create the world? And what's the deal with people living like 900 years when our lifespan now is only at 70ish? Who wrote the Bible anyway? What about the concept of Heaven and h**l? Where are the gray areas there, such as dogs or babies, or what about babies who would have grown up to be potential murderers? Please help give insight on this topic.

  1. At last you are starting to think for yourself. Keep it up and you will eventually escape from the crass stupidity of religious belief

  2. i do beleave an energy that made the world but like a "god" i'm thinking energy is wat made us not an explotion or a man with a wite bread (relighus god) but in my opion it did go VERY simeler to evilution but quite to be a physecal matter get what i'm saying?..............

  3. Evolution.  The discovery of DNA should have put this issue to rest 50 years ago.

  4. In the beginning there was nothing

Then some nothings got together and became something

Then something exploded ( the “big bang” )

    Millions of years passed by.

As the gaseous remains of the “big bang” spread out

Some of it became galaxies, stars, and planets

    Millions of years passed by.

On the planets it rained and it rained

    Millions of years passed by.

    Some rocks dissolved into puddles,

And this became the primordial soup

    Millions of years passed by.

Something in the soup decided to be life

    Millions of years passed by.

This “life” mutated and mutated and

    Millions of years passed by.

this is where ALL life comes from!

    Yeah Right!

Give me CREATION as it is much more believable

Webster's Dictionary defines religion as follows, "Cause, principle or system of beliefs held with ardour and faith." Surely this is an apt description of evolution. Evolution is a 'belief system' i.e. a religion !

Models of science are subject to change for both creationists and evolutionists. But, the beliefs that these models are built on are not. The problem is that most scientists do not realize that it is the belief (religion) of evolution that is the basis for scientific models (the interpretations, or stories) used to attempt an explanation of the present. Evolutionists are not prepared to change their actual belief that all life can be explained by natural processes and that no God is involved (or even needed). Evolution is a religion to which they are commited. Christians need to wake up to this.

Evolution is a religion, not a science.

  5. You had so many questions that I will try my best to answer them.

    ---Big Bang vs Creationism---

Before the Big Bang theory, most astrophysicists believed that the universe had no beginning.  However with evidence of all of the galaxies and planets moving away from a point at the center of the universe ("Red Shift") and the cooling down of the universe (entropy), most astrophysicists now believe in the Big Bang, or in other words, the universe has a beginning.

There is an argument called the Kalam Cosmological Argument.  This argument states...

Premise 1: Everything that begins to exist has a cause.

Premise 2: The universe began to exist.

Conclusion: Therefore, the universe must have a cause.

It is my belief that the Big Bang Theory is in agreement with Biblical creationism.  Since the universe had a beginning, something must have caused it to begin. That's where God comes in.  When you think about it from a philosophical stand point, the Big Bang sounds an awful like God:  Incredibly dense, huge mass of something that no one knows where it came from, all the sudden explodes into light, heat, energy... forming galaxies and planets...

I also believe that God created the earth in 6 days.  These "days" were probably not 24 hour days, but merely six "periods". I have even heard it that the original Hebrew word "yom" may be translated at "day" but is better translated as an "indefinite period of time" in this case.  Who knows how long these days were, maybe millions of years, which the fossil record would support.

    ---Dinosaurs---

I really don't know about this one, and I'm not sure if it really matters in the grand scheme of things (the eternity of one's soul).  I think that the fossil record doesn't ever have us together.

    ---Life Expectancy---

This one is purely speculation.  I guess I believe that the first humans that God made were genetically perfect.  Over time, genetic mistakes have been passed down as well as escalation in viral/bacterial toxicity.  I guess over time people have started living fewer years.

Either that or God just changed his mind :)

    ---Bible Authors---

I believe that actual people physically wrote the Bible (Moses, Paul and others with quills and scrolls) but that these people were influenced by God.   2 Timothy 3:16 says that "All Scripture is God-breathed...".  Other translations word it "All Scripture is inspired by God..."   God more or less told them with His Spirit what to write down.

    ---Heaven and h**l---

    Heaven is fulfillment with God.

    h**l is separation from God.

This is a huge debate if h**l is an actual fire with physical torment or if the fire is just figurative for the sorrow felt from total separation from our creator.  I tend to believe the latter, that h**l is horrible because it is a place that is completely void of God.

Anything "good" you have ever experience was a gift from God.

Sin merely a perversion of that good. (The good stuff in the wrong context or used in the wrong way)

h**l will be a complete lack of anything good and therefore an extreme longing for anything good.  There will be no sign of God anywhere.

I also believe that babies will go to heaven because this is what David in the believed.  In 2 Samuel 12, David baby dies.  He then says "I will go to him, but he will not come to me"  God will be the ultimate judge if someone old enough/aware of one's sin and should be held accountable.

It sounds like you are doing some soul searching.  The Bible says in Deuteronomy 4:23 "But if from there you seek the LORD your God, you will find him if you look for him with all your heart and with all your soul."

  6. Its good to see that you are critically thinking.

The God of the Bible is described as an initial creator - thus, if we believe in the big bang and evolution, either:-

    1.  The story in the Bible is not literal; or,

    2.  The God described in the Bible does not exist.

In relation to dinosaurs, Ken Ham and other creationists believe that dinosaurs lived side by side with man. This is absurd given the massive amount of evidence (literally tons) that man and dinosaurs are fossilised in different layers of geology.

The 900 year lifespan is pure bullshit.

Who wrote the bible - well, the torah was written by priests in the court of King Josiah, the first actual king of Israel - it is said in Kings that he was handed a "lost scroll" - in other words the Jews had no belief in Moses prior to that scroll. The New Testament was written about 100 years after Jesus was alive, which leaves a lot of room for re-writes and hyperbole of the text.

Heaven and h**l are not in existence according to all our observations of the universe.

On the issue of sin for dogs and babies - traditional christians believe all humans have original sin because of Eve and thus, a baby is a sinner that will go to h**l without Jebus and dogs do not count. Clearly this too is bullshit.

Look - humans have been manipulating each other to carry out their "vision" of society for thousands of years - law, religion, politics - these are all methods of social control. Religion is just a little more insidious because it claims "ultimate authority" from a being bigger than you and me. But, at the end of the day, its bullshit.

  7. Why does everyone keep insisting there is a conflict between the two?  I believe that evolution is the mechanism that the Gods created to introduce and diversify life in the universe, the only conflict is with people running churches who are afraid that if they lose their reputation for infallibility they will lose their revenue.  Remember how badly they reacted to being told that the Earth wasn't the center of the Universe?

  8. Dear Friend,

I would start my answer with a question.

    # How did Christianity or for that matter any other religion come into existence?

    # Did Jesus Christ order us to open a new religion in his name? Did any other spiritual master asked us to open a new religion in his name?

We were born humans, undivided by caste, creed, race etc.

Now, have u seen the painting of MONALISA? Isn't that a great piece of ART? Would u believe if sm1 told u that that painting appeared itself on this earth, no human created it?

Everything that we see around and every unseen thing like air, heaven, h**l, angels, demons, aliens have been created by GOD and nobody else. GOD is the SUPERMIND behind all the creation.

BIBLE was written 200 years after Jesus Christ was crucified. It was essentially the compilation of teaching of Jesus.

Every person's destiny is made by his own KARMAS. HEAVEN and h**l are subtle realms where our spirit goes after we die. It depends on our good or bad karmas, that we are to go to heaven or h**l. Suppose we have accumulated lots of good karmas. Then initially we would be sent ot heaven, but as soon as all our good karmas have been spent while living in heaven, we would be thrown into h**l. After that we are even born again in different species. According to Vedas, there are 8,400,000 species. A spirit may born again in any of the species depending to their karmas. And if it is very lucky, it will be born as a human.

Every spirit has been in this cycle since eternity.

Jesus's message to this whole world was to free ourselves from this eternal cycle of life and death, heaven and h**l and to achieve GOD.

GOD can be achieved by the grace of a perfect master. A perfect master can see GOD and can show u GOD, Just like Jesus did.

GOD is a concept which has created mankind, this earth, sun, trees, planets, water and everything visible or non-visible (i.e. air, demons and angels, h**l and heaven etc). If there is a power which we all believe in and that has created all this universe, why can't it be seen??

Now, I ask you a question. Who gave you birth?? Your Mother and Father right! If you can see the creator of your physical body, i.e. your Father and Mother, then why can't you see the creator of your soul and this whole universe. In fact, it is the birth right of every human being to see GOD!!

You can see your parents thru your physical eyes, right! But GOD can't be seen by these Physical eyes! There is a third eye that is needed to be opened in order to see the GOD. Just like butter is there in the milk itself, but it can only be extracted thru a special process, as is fire is present in wood, but there is a special process needed to bring it out, i.e. rubbing it. That is how GOD can only be seen thru third eye or divine eye which is present in every human being.

That third eye can be opened by a perfect master only!

Now the good news, you can see GOD too. Visit http://divyajyoti.org/

Or if u want to ask any more questions, u r most welcome!!...Good Luck... :-)

  9. Through evolution.

Using Occam's Razor, I cut out the BS(deities).

And I see that you are becoming more enlightened. Continue on that path, for it is good for you.

  10. Well, aside from God not being a scientific theory, and the Big Bang not being related to evolution, you're pretty much spot on.

There are so satisfying answers to the issues you brought up, that allow those verses to be literally interpreted.

  11. If you study world religions (the old ones), you will discover most of christianity is recycled. For example, the whole Noah's Ark thing was basically a replica of the Epic of Gilgamesh. Christians also stole christmas... it used to be Sol Invictus to the Romans who stole it from the Egyptians... and guess what day the celebration of the almighty sun was on? December 25th.

Then if you study christianity itself, you'll realize that there never was an agreement on what the doctrine was supposed to be. After Jesus died, Christianity pretty much fell apart. A bunch of congregations began forming their own doctrines and arguing about which apostle was the best.

Eventually, Constantine decided to use christianity to unite his empire. He held the council of nicea where they decided which books to go into the bible... now think about it very hard please... they decided which books to put into the bible... lets assume that the bible (right now) is coherent and doesn't contradict itself... its REALLLY easy to FORCE something to make sense when u edit out everything that doesn't.

  12. God created the world.. but its not stated when he sent Adam and Eve to the Earth.. (at least not in the Quran) Sooo who knows ; ) The Bible is not one book.. it has multiple 'books' made into 'one' with; multiple authors... I believe in Evolution but to claim Humans came from Monkeys.. NOT lol..

Why think that the Big Bang theory was not through 'God's Action'?

"CREATION OF THE UNIVERSE: ‘THE BIG BANG’

The creation of the universe is explained by astrophysicists in a widely accepted phenomenon, popularly known as the ‘Big Bang’. It is supported by observational and experimental data gathered by astronomers and astrophysicists for decades. According to the ‘Big Bang’, the whole universe was initially one big mass (Primary Nebula). Then there was a ‘Big Bang’ (Secondary Separation) which resulted in the formation of Galaxies. These then divided to form stars, planets, the sun, the moon, etc. The origin of the universe was unique and the probability of it occurring by ‘chance’ is zero.

The Qur’aan contains the following verse, regarding the origin of the universe: “Do not the Unbelievers see That the heavens and the earth Were joined together (as one Unit of Creation), before We clove them asunder?” [Al-Qur’aan 21:30]

The striking congruence between the Qur’aanic verse and the ‘Big Bang’ is inescapable! How could a book, which first appeared in the deserts of Arabia1400 years ago, contain this profound scientific truth?" (From my Source)

  13. God is meant to provide an answer as to where we came from but it doesn't really provide any answers.  Science will continue to try to find out more and more about reality.

  14. What if God guided us into evolution?  What prompts a fish to get out of water and begin to walk on land?  What get's a land dwelling carnivore to begin to eat plants?  How is it that creatures will fight back against their own instincts in order to live on and change?
