I want to avoid talking face to face because, I always get a sense of dread when my mom or dad come and sit by me. They let out a long sigh before they start talking and give me a look that I can't stomach. I really want to hear your anecdote. If you don't have a story advice is good too.

  1. If you have incredibly stingy parents that are foreign, ( like mine)  then don't even bother. But if your parents worry about your well being, then go for it.

  2. well i dont know if I can help you, but I will just tell you my story.

First of all, my parents are really open and easy to talk to so it wasn't as hard maybe as your situation but it still was terrifying.  I didn't tell them everything ( my problems are way to embarrassing for them to know the details) but I told them, that lately I have been feeling really bad and really anxious and that I looked up the symptoms on the internet and it looks like I have GAD, and I want to see a pyschiatrist... thats it.  what surprised me is that my dad admited to having depression and my mom had GAD!! which trust me, was a total shock!

I don't know your family or what your situation is, but you might be surprised... if you know your parents will not react appropriately, unless you absolutely NEED to tell them about it ( i.e. you are underage and you need them to drive you there or something), then its really not their business and what they don't know can't hurt them.

    Good luck!
