I want to go to grad school but am scared I might not get in. Please help if you have an MA or higher. How did you get in? what was your gpa? your majors? work experience? volunteer work? anything else that u think helped u get in?

I want to go in to study environment and politics at either Duke, NYU, or Boston U. my worry is my 3.4 GPA (i had three majors and a minor) and my lack of relevant experience. I can't intern since I already graduated and I can't afford to currently volunteer, so I would appreciate getting some ideas from your experiences.

Thank you for ANY help!

  1. take the appropriate exam (GMAT, etc) and apply to several schools with programs that appeal to you.  if you were a decent undergraduate student, you'll find something.  there are so many to choose from.  don't stress - this is the easy part.  good luck.

  2. I applied to and got into three graduate programs right out of college -- Minnesota, Duke and Delaware (my safety school).

My overall GPA was only about a 3.3 -- but that was because I had a horrific Freshman year.  I would have graduated with honors if they only considered my grades from Sophomore year on.  I had a 3.7+ GPA in my major and a 2230/2400 on my GRE.  I also went to a decent undergraduate school (Villanova).

  3. My MA is in counseling, my GPA was 3.5. I had a little work experience before I entered in grad school, but honestly that didn't play a big role in my acceptance. Just make sure your personal statement is flawless. Also try to get at least one professor to write you a letter of recommendation. Good luck
