  1. He didn't :-) I proposed to him!

  2. He actually did it in the very traditional way on Valentine's Day.  We had dinner and were waiting for the server to bring our dessert. We actually had ordered it "to go" and he said, Well, before we go"....and he placed a napkin on the floor next to the table and knelt on one knee, took my hand and said, "I have a question to ask you...Will you marry me?"

I was very suprised because we had spent the evening in the Emergency Room with his mother and it was after 9PM when she was finally admitted and settled into a hospital room. We had planned a dinner at a nice restaurant, but by that time it was closing and we ended up at Perkins. I just wanted to go home and head to bed, but he insisted that since it was Valentine's Day we HAD to have dinner together. I found out later that he had been planning the proposal since about Christmas and nothing was going to keep him from asking me. (Even a late evening in ER and not a very romantic restaurant after all.)

  3. Michael took me to "visit his grandmother" at her home on Long Beach Island. We had some time to kill so we drove down to the lighthouse at Barnegat. After climbing the lighthouse and taking a picture we descended to the rockwall below to check out the view. As we stood looking out across the bay Michael stood in front of me, took me in his arms and asked me how much I loved him. I replied "alot..." and he repeated the question asking, "do you love me enough to marry me?" after which he produced a gorgeous ring. I thought he had found the ring on the ground and said, "where did you get that?!" After Mike sorted out the issue and explained that the ring was in his pocket he said, "Will you marry me??" and I replied with a robust "shut UP!" followed by a hearty "YES!!!"

  4. The short of it: the traditional restaraunt, down-on-one-knee proposal.

    Long story:

It was a Saturday, and I had to work all day.  He had made reservations at a really nice place earlier in the week and I had been trying to get him to cancel them all week, and all day, without success.  Got home around 5, sitting and complaining to my mother, "We're trying to move out, we should be saving this money..." and she told me not to let the price of the menu ruin my night out.  (DING-DING-DING, hint #1 - my mother would complain if we went out to McDonald's or Dunkin Donuts, "Save your money, what a waste!")  The phone rings, it's my guy asking if I'm ready yet.  (DING-DING-DING, hink #2 - he never calls and knows I'm always late, and he usually is too.) I get upset, since I have 2 hours before I even have to be at his house, and I'm trying to relax a little after work.  Went to his house, he was home and had some sports game on TV but wasn't watching it (forget hint, that should have been a BANNER!).

He was pretty quiet all night.  I had gotten a small hole in my nylons on the way to the restaraunt and told him about it.  When we got there, we were sitting waiting for our table and I pressed my leg against his to hide the hole.  He jumped up and walked across the hall, started playing with a book of matches there.  Through dinner, he wasn't talking so I "filled up" the rather uncomfortable silence babbling about my day.  (D-D-D hint #3 - why would it be uncomfortable?)  Finally I said, "I've talked for at least an hour.  I'm hungry.  I'm going to eat.  Your turn to talk."  He said, "So, how was your day?"  I got SO VERY upset...I had just talked for more than an hour about my day!!!  The waitress came and asked how everything was, he said good and asked for his to be wrapped up to go - still untouched.  (D-D-D, hints # 4 - he didn't eat at all)  Of course, I couldn't sit and eat while he wasn't, so I had her wrap mine, too.  She asked about dessert, he asked if she could give us a minute.  I was thisclose to killing him...I'm STARVING, and you're sendin g the woman with food away? What?

He then got up, got down on one knee, and proposed.  I honestly don't remember what he said.  I sat there thinking, "Which is my left hand?" while bawling my eyes out.  The whole place was chattering in the background, "Shhh, look over there...they're getting engaged...he's proposing to her..."  It was cute.  In my fluster (and surprise!) I never said yes.  I just let him put the ring on my finger, crying all the while.  He had to ask again when he sat down.  Of course I said yes! :-)

...Meanwhile, I had told EVERYBODY that he was going to propose the next weekend.  He had planned a weekend trip up to the mountains for us.  I just knew it was going to happen then...

  5. HAHA great question!

My husband and I had been talking about it for a few months and I had always told him that he needed to ask my daddy's permission first.  So when one day he just randomly ask for daddy's number, I knew it was going to happen.  But i was not how I had always dreamed of, NO!  He was in the other room playing his video games and yells across the house, "Hey!  It's totally ok with me if you marry me."  Lol what a keeper.

  6. On New Year's Eve at midnight.  We were out dancing, having some drinks and at the countdown to midnight we were kissing and he pulled the ring out of his pocket.  I never liked the getting down on one knee thing, so he just held it out and asked me.  It was the perfect way to start the year!

  7. On the beach of Hawaii, as the stars were coming out, on Christmas Day 1999. We talked about life and everything else... and when I wasn't paying attention, he whispered "I want to spend my life with you... will you spend it with me?" When I looked down, there was the ring!
