I have a friend who has three kids with ADHD. My son is 6 and having some behavior issues, I took him to the Dr. he said no, My friend says to get a second opionon that she sees things in him that worry her. So how did you know that your child had ADHD what things made you notice and get them tested.? I think my son is being 6 and testing the waters, but I don't want to be one of those parents in denial. Thanks for you comments.

  1. Go ahead and get a second opinion, but keep in mind that most parents of ADHD children tend to see symptoms in most other children. They suddenly become experts in the field and this is not always true.

  2. My husband was diagnosed when he was 26, growing up was very difficult for him but it was obvious. the behaviors are obvious, not just being six behavior issues, my husband would climb up the roof of his elementary school via drain gutter to retrieve balls when he was in first grade. he also walked across all of the tops of the desks to get across the class room. Although he was very intellegent it would take him 3 times as long to complete a task (if he completed it at all) than other children his age. Also, frequent injuries, calls to the principal, hyperactivity beyond normal, inability to focus unless in a "hyperfocus state" (where they will be very involved in something they are interested in). I would trust your doctor unless your son is showing some really big issues you may need to medicate him or help him with focusing or redirecting tools. good luck!

  3. My fiancee has it and he will just get really hyper and not want to listen. He will just get an attitude for no reason sometimes.

  4. They cant stay focused for a long peiod of time they have long burst of energy. Teachers may call about their behavior in class, take them to your family doctor and have them tested.

  5. Sometimes the parents and teachers want an answer so bad about their children's bad behaviors that they'll find a doctor that will diagnose their child. sometimes these children just haven't been properly raised to have good self-control. I definately think some children need the help of adhd and add meds, but sometimes they just need to learn how to learn in their own way to compensate for theit racing minds, and sometimes they are just kids being kids and stretching their boundaries. I have a book called "right brained child in a left brained world" it gives you a list of characteristics to check for your child, and some test you can do. My kid is a visual learner, so I used some of the techniques to teach her some of her kindergarten stuff, and she's caught up. She is mildly ADD but never diagnosed. She would never be considered for it by the teachers, though, since she sits still in class, is quiet, is a girl, and trys hard to learn, by the way, she's 6. try the book, it's great.

  6. my bro is 18 and when he was seven my mom took him to the doctors because he kept playin up they reffered her to a specialist and they run some test and thats how we found out my bro had ADHD.

    hope this helped good luck
