So years ago I attempted to water ski and as soon as the boat took off, I faceplanted every time. On the 4th of July my family is having a get together and my aunt and uncle are taking out their boat and water skiing. It's been years and I want to take another go at it, but I'm afraid I'll make a fool out of myself and fall everytime.

So how does one actually maintain balance, get up on the water skis, etc? What muscles are you mainly focusing on? Any help would be great!

  1. Its Just like Regular Skiing. Feels the same.

  2. Ok, Water skiing is easy once you get the hang of it, the only hard part is getting up. What i do is it sit on the edge of my dock, get ready and signal to the person who is driving the boat, then they ride away slowly, giving you time to get up on the skis. Its a good way to get up on them. Try it!

  3. I would start in shallow water and maybe even have someone behind you to stabilize you before you take off.  Keep you knees bent and elbows slightly bent.  When you ready to go yell hit it and the key is LET THE BOAT DO THE WORK PULLING YOU UP! dont try to use your arms to get up... let the boat do all the work.  Keep you knees bent and letting the boat do the work are the key things in my opinion.  Once your up its a piece of cake.  Have Fun, Happy 4th!

  4. i learned in a deep lake and we just attached the rope to the tower on our boat...and a few tips are:

    1) don't try to pull yourself up, let the boat do the work

    2) when in the water try to keep the skis as vertical as possible

    3) also when in the water keep the skis close together

    4) keep your knees slightly bent once you're out of the water

    5) keep your elbows bent before you get pulled up other wise the boat will pretty much yank your arms out

Hope this helps, and hope you can get up this time :D

  5. Put your legs, (and ski's), out front, act like you are being dragged forward, and ride up on the ski's, and if it doesn't work, Always Remember, LET GO of the ROPE!!!
