I am 21 years old, educated and well rounded. I have a good paying job as a civilian, but I also have a very strong desire to join the Air Force, to serve my country.

Both my father and step father were in the Air Force.

I love my country..

This would be a HUGE life changing thing for me. It would change my relationship, my career path and other aspects of my life.

How did YOU decide to join the Military?

  1. I just woke up and decide to do it one day.I would enlist for a year or two to see how you like it and then just take military leave at your current job.Just a suggestion butt good luck

  2. KILL,KILL,KILL OOOH-RAAH MARINE CORPS

lol jking i wanna join because i wanna be in the S**t basicly....meaning i'd be happy to be apart of the war on terror or if it happens ww3.

  3. Most people i know decided based on how good their civilian life was. If it sucked then they tend to join. It sounds to me like you shouldn't join. You can "serve" your country by doing like maybe the reserves, which allows you to keep your civilian job, or by just doing your job and helping the economy.

Serving your country is just a line they use to give you a reason to put your life on the line. Why would you take a risk with your life, no matter how small, when you have a good life as is.

I too was going to join the military, that is until i started college and found out i get paid more, work better hours, and use my brain. That can be another thing. If you prefer to think than act, then dont join. Last i checked the military isn't interested in your thoughts. You could be the top MIT person, but once in boot camp they want you to climb that rope!

Sure some say you can get a job with it doing some sort of intelligent work, but how is that any different than that you would already be doing, and a lot of military goes to civilian areas to get that done. Take building airplanes, if you join boeing then you are serving them because most military planes are built by boeing.

  4. I signed up for the USAF because I saw my dad in  the Army and my grandfathers serving the USMC and USAF and how much respect they all received and deserved.

I want to fight for my country and have the best job security around. I know that when economical times get rough (such as they are) that i will still have a job to go to and earn the almighty dollar.

I want to be given the guidance and discipline that I need after I get out. And I want an amazing work experience. The AF has the best family life, too. I cannot wait. I go to Lackland AFB in 9 days for Basic Training. HUA

  5. well im 13 so im not in yet but i decided that i wanted to join the marines wen well im not sure y i decided.... i just have a desire to do as much as i can for my country!!!! the fact that i grew up around the military might have helped a little to.

  6. i'm 17 and i live in a bad neighborhood.lots of drug dealers live around here, and i've seen many people's lives destroyed because of their addiction to drugs. many kids drop out, and anyone who stays here eventually becomes a loser. i figured joining the military would help me find direction in my life , help me escape from here and avoid the same trap some of my friends have fallen into.

  7. have to make up your mind thats what you want, not everyone is cut out for military duty, but very exciting life.

  8. Desire to serve, the best job security and benefits around.... and its the ultimate job experience..

  9. i grew up around it and thats why i wanted to, its was just like blinking for me, never had to think about it. just remember though that just because your a medic in civilian life doesnt mean you can do that in the military. its very hard to get into because it is overmanned and letting almost no one into the medical for certain branches.

  10. I joined because my best friend said that he was going in.

Obviously that wasn't the best reason to make such a life altering decision, but I ended up spending twenty years in the Navy, and have absolutely no regrets!

  11. To serve my country.  Someone has to do it.  I did.  No doubt in my mind it was the right decision.

  12. Well it sounds to me you are thinking of the military the right way. You feel it is your duty to serve your country. Not many people doing that today. Dont listen to the people who say they want to be in the ****. It just means they have not been there yet. The best way to decide is to look in your heart and soul. If you believe you should join and your heart and soul are telling you to then I would say you already know what to do and you should probably go ahead and do it. You would make a Good NCO or Officer because your heart would be in it. It is a great life and a great family to be apart of. I am a combat medic and I would not change all the bad times I have had. I wouldn't do it because of the family I have in it and the good times I have had also. You cut me I bleed Red, White, and Blue.

  13. Gosh there are some misconceptions here!

But also some very good advice.

I joined the Army because I was concerned about the future of our country and wanted to do my part to serve and protect her.

I do not know ANY blood thirsty soldiers.

I know men and women who believe in a purpose.

Our flag, Constitution and great American way.

If you feel you would benefit from some hard physical and mental conditioning, and you can follow instructions while having initiative, if you want to say "Yes I can", instead of "Gee I wonder?"

Then you are making the right choice.

    But dont do it lightly.

Be sure you are ready for the commitment to your country before you take the oath.

Good luck and god bless you.

  14. I joined the Army for the college benefits - 23 years later I'm still in.  I like the way of life and the people I work with.  You may want to try the Air Force Reserve or the Air National Guard before going active duty - that will give you a chance to serve part time and keep your job.  If you think it's something you would like to do after trying it you can go active duty.  Just my two cents - good luck with your decision.

  15. Think of what you would like to do. What interests you? Do you want to be a doctor, fighter pilot, cook, search and rescue, firefighter, or whatever. Every job that there is in civilian life, they have them in the military too.

Personally, I want to join the CSAR (Combat Search and Rescue) because I want to save people, but I want some action with it. So, say there was a friendly pilot shot down, we would go in and rescue him, and maybe there would be some combat involved with it. I would say the military is the way to go, but it's your choice.
