I've stopped a million and one times...and just want to stop completely. I feel like smoking is preventing me from enjoying my life fully. Can't exercise great and with longevity, smell like c**p, always coughing and having a stuffy nose, headaches....and it goes on and on.

I just want to stop. Please offer me your incite.

Thanks.

  1. I quit pretty much cold turkey and tried to find other ways to occupy myself when I was craving. Some things I did was I'd try to keep some healthy snacks like baby carrots around to much on, and I took to keeping a toothpick in my mouth the majority of the time. For some reason that seemed to help. And also I would try to busy myself whenever I felt that I just had to have one.

  2. nicotine patches/.? help and support from your family..?

my dad smokes and he has put me off smoking.. i dont know because im not in your situation.. watch some of those disgusting adds or shows about the effects of smoking; it might put you off.

  3. Fear,...I smoked Kool filters for close to 20 yrs. and 2 packs on a good day ,3-4 on bad days. I didn't have too many good days. I watched as my father in law suffered away the last 5 or so years of his miserable life with emphysema , his lungs slowly turning to concrete as we watched. Up all hours of the night ,choking , gasping, unable to sleep for more than a half hour at a time ,hocking up big goobers that would turn your guts. He ended up permanently on a ventilator in the local V.A. hospital as his blood/ oxygen level fell off to 62% and wouldn't recover on it's own as his ability to get 02 from the air he tried to breathe was being hampered by lung failure. I went down to the hospital shortly after he was intubated, alone with him ,and he motioned for me to pull the plug on the ventilator,... and looking at him in his misery ,I wanted to.No balls , I suppose. I won't soon forget that.So I took that nasty picture and went to work on quitting ,chewed Copenhagen tobacco for a while, lost some teeth on that account , but kept my nicotine urges at bay without smoking. Then , little by little ,I got away from snuff and stayed away.My real inspiration was my children , I was not going to put them through the same **** my in laws went through. I did what I had to do. If you want a better picture like I had , go visit the respiratory ward at a hospital near you and watch them suffer and lose their battle before your eyes ,a lot of them are not old, either.God bless you in your battle.

  4. put yourself under close observation by any of your mate or any of your friends..

  5. Talk to your doctor about Chantix. I'm thinking about trying it. It's expensive, but so are cigs. Good luck!

  6. WILL POWER! Get help, don't try to go at it alone. Try finding a support group.

  7. I quit COLD TURKEY on January 2, 1992.....

And trust me to this day I THINK about having a cigarette on a rare occasion...

What I do is get busy, concentrate on something else, and in about 20 minutes or so the thought or craving just goes away....

I also think about how much a pack of cigs costs now, and the fact that I would stink, my kiss & clothes would taste and smelll like an ashtray.

The first drag would make me want to puke and make me dizzy.

After all this time it's just not worth it........

WHen I quit....I threw away ALL my cigs...opened packs and unopened cartons.

I did laundry...dry cleaned and washed all my clothes...

I threw threw away every handbag that smelled of tobacco.

I used to be a HORRIBLE person,,,, when smoking was allowed in restaurants....I did not care if you had just started your dinner...if I was having my dessert & coffee I also smoked a cig at my table having my second cup of coffee.

And when I drank, I smoked like a train....

Now I can smell a cigarette across an open parking lot....

Now I also believe in choice...if a person wants to smoke ...hey...it's a free country...I think we need to STOP legislating..personal choice...

As for me...I have quit for over 15 years and hope to never pick up the habit again.....but it is something that on occasion tries to ensnare me again......

EDIT: One more thing my Dad has been diagnosed with 4 (FOUR) different CANCERS, all of which can be traced and linked back to his smoking.....that is another reason why this daughter....stopped........
