  1. There's a website called march2success.com. It is run by the army but you have a choice to avoid any recruiting advertisements. This website allows you to take practice SAT and ACT test for free. All you have to do is sign up. You dont have the join the army or be part of any junior army programs and what not.

  2. Don't pay for any classes! When I first took the SATs I scored in the 1700's, and paid for a course with Kaplan for approximately 900 dollars. This was a complete waste of my time and money. I found a guide off this unknown site called tutorfox.com. I used their review book, which cost me 10 bucks. Their book is extremely well written and covers all topics you need to know. In addition, I also used the Princeton Review's book to help me out. I went up to a 2300 by using both books. I would highly recommend them. The key to doing well on the SAT is practice. You must practice and keep on practicing until you have encountered all the types of questions on the test. Once you do this you will be able to ace the test.

The tutorfox guide can be found

  3. You better take them more than once.

One good thing to do is to get the practice books and study those. The princeton review works but there are a couple more. This test is nothing more than a test to see what you have been exposed to as far as material.

If you pay attention to the book and learn the little tricks (trust  me, there are many) you will get a high score.

Practice. One very important thing is vocabulary.

As far as college, it depends on what college. I know that for UC's, you need some pretty good scores but remember, these can be balanced out. For example, if you have a low SAT score but high GPA and many extracurricular activities, your application will look good. The test score is just one our of many factors.

I knew someone who had a 2010 (out of 2400 possible) but still did not make it to UCLA or Berkeley.

Study the books but also pay attention to the other college requirements.
